-Part time Reader appointment was given to Dr. D.J. Arwade and also appointed as Unit Head in Department of Orthopedics.

INITIATION OF PG:

  • In 1986 – Dr. Arwade sir became recognized post graduate teacher of Shivaji University. P.G. courses started (M.S and D.Ortho). The course continued till 1996 when Dr. D.J. Arwade retired.

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENT – (Last 50 years):

Milestones -

  • During initial days all orthopedic trauma cases were operated under X ray control.
  • A lot of work done by Dr. Arwade sir in the field of Pott’s spine and paraplegia, spinal tumors, spine fractures, difficult fracture fixations.
  • In 2003- ‘C’ arm image intensifier installed in both operation theatre at Sangli and Miraj which has helped in close nailing in difficult fracture fixations, precision and reduced operating time considerably.
  • Started DNB course in Department of Orthopedics which lasted for three years.
  • In 2004- All the operation theatres  were well equipped with HEFA filters, laminar air flow and reduced infection rate to negligible.
  • In 2005- Newer Ilizarov fixators, interlocking nailing systems, electrical drilling system installed in operation theatres.
  • In 2006- Newer version of fracture table, Spine  instrumentation, Battery operated drilling system available at both operation theatres.
  • In 2007 – ‘Arthroscopy Unit’ started at Government Medical College and Hospital, Miraj.
  • In 2008- Pneumatic drilling system installed  at Government Medical College and Hospital, Miraj.
  • Electronically operated tourniquet made available in both the theatres.
  • In 2009 Organized CME on ‘TRAUMA’ at GMC, Miraj.
  • In 2010- New modular operation theatres constructed at GMC, Miraj with central A.C, central oxygen, laminar air flow, HEFA filters.
  • In 2013 New C arms installed at both the hospitals.
  • Organised various diagnostic camps in  nearby villages and provided treatment at both hospitals.
  • In 2016 MCI inspection for starting PG course.
  • 2019 - first batch of M.S ORTHO  students admitted through DMER
  • 2020- installment of new KIRAN c arm in SANGLI  civil
  • 2021- First THR performed in GMC MIRAJ
  • 2022- first batch of 3 students passing out
  • 2023- First SPINE ENDOSCOPY AT sangli civil
  • 2023-  installment of flat panel ALLENGER C arm
